The Real Story of the Arc Ignition BoomDeck

Arc Ignition BoomDeck — hand-built interior inside a real playing-card shell

The real one, open on the bench. Real playing cards for the shell. Arc ignition spark lighter inside.

Time to set the record straight on the BoomDeck, because it keeps getting confused.

I invented this. In 2021.

I came up with the Arc Ignition BoomDeck in 2021. Real playing cards for the shell, arc ignition spark lighter inside, hand-built one at a time. I made and sold them solo for four years before anyone else was in the market.

That whole time, the only way to get one was through me. People loved them. One of my earliest customers has been running his for six years and still going strong. The design works because it was figured out slowly, by someone who actually performs with it.

Then Wondermakers copied it

Wondermakers took the design. Their first version used a heat coil, not arc ignition — a cheaper, worse approach that doesn't fire as cleanly. After I kept improving my own build and selling the upgraded Arc Ignition version, they finally released their "V2" — a near-direct copy of what I'd been shipping, but still lower quality.

Here's the quick way to tell them apart:

Real one (mine): shell is made from real playing cards. Arc ignition. Hand-built by the person who invented it.

Copy (theirs): shell is a 3D-printed plastic box that looks fake the moment you handle it. Factory-produced.

Why the real card shell matters

Because the whole point is that it looks like a deck of cards. A real deck of cards IS a real deck of cards. A 3D-printed shell that's trying to look like one is a prop pretending to be a prop. People notice.

The audience doesn't need to inspect it closely to feel the difference. You know how a magician handles a real deck vs. a fake prop? The audience reads that too. If you're using the real one, your handling matches the object. If you're using a plastic knock-off, your own handling will give away that something's off.

Why arc ignition over heat coils

Arc ignition fires instantly, cleanly, every time. Heat coils are slow to warm up, slow to cool down, and burn out. Spark lighters are the technology they put in modern USB-rechargeable lighters because they work better than anything else. There's a reason the knock-offs eventually tried to catch up — they just didn't catch up all the way.

The short version

I invented the Arc Ignition BoomDeck. I built it alone for four years before anyone copied it. If you want the real thing — real playing-card shell, arc ignition, built by the person who designed it — buy it from me direct. That's the only way to get one that actually works like it's supposed to.

Everything else on the market is someone trying to catch up to what I was already shipping.
